Re: Are otherkin based on a broad idea of reincarnation?

This is such an excellent question, and it’s beautifully impossible to answer!

But I shall attempt to lay out some ideas (I’m not one for beliefs, so although I’ll use that word, I mean ‘ideas’. I wish there was an English word that means ‘I idea’!).

For me, existence is purely spiritual (I dislike that word, it stinks of religion, but I don’t know what else to use).

I ‘believe’ that our Selves exist beyond and quite separate from our human forms (or indeed our Otherkin forms). I think our spirits exist in all times; past, present and future. And in all realms and planes. I believe my human body to be a shell. A home for my spirit. One of its many homes.

So, for me, reincarnation is too simple a concept to describe my beliefs. But, if I am a human who has, does, will live another life as an Other kin, then I must answer yes to your question.

But, and it’s a big but, I think that a single ‘spirit’ can live many lives concurrently. And not just in the human idea of ‘concurrently’. I don’t think it’s just a case of living one life, dying, and moving on to the next. I think one spirit can co-exist in more than one life. Time is a human and earthly concept that I don’t fully understand. Remove time, and things are simpler to understand. I *am* otherkin, in the past, in the present and I will be in the future. I am also currently human, although I don’t yet know *why* I’ve either chosen or been given this life. But maybe my Other self knows. I just haven’t been able to penetrate the human camouflage enough yet for such self discovery.

But my Otherkin self isn’t dead. My Otherkin self exists right now. Because I am not “a body with a spirit, I am a spirit with a body” - or indeed more than one body. And that body, human or otherwise, is largely irrelevant to my spirit. So can reincarnation as a concept exist without death?

I think perhaps a human way of explaining Otherkin to people who don’t understand is to use the example of a transgendered person. Say, a person born male but her ‘spirit’ is female. Although she hasn’t had surgery, she considers herself completely female - her ‘male’ body is irrelevant to her actual gender. And it’s the same for me as Otherkin - the fact that my body happens to be human is irrelevant to my spirit.

When I dream, I’m often Other. I’m also often male. Now, as a human I have no desire to be male (I would very much love to have my own cock to play with, but that’s quite besides the point). I’m comfortable in a female form. But my spirit isn’t female. Nor is it entirely male. Could it be that gender itself is an earthly thing. Could there be other life forms who have no gender and would be completely confused to find themselves in this earthly world of men and women? Do we also inhabit those life forms? Do or can we inhabit them concurrently?

If people question my sexual orientation I say I’m bisexual, but in truth I’m actually pansexual. I just never say that because people often don’t understand. So have I, do I, will I exist in a genderless world some time, some where? Is that where my pansexuality comes from? Is my spirit genderless? And, as my spirit never dies, has that genderlessness affected this human life? Am I an Otherkin spirit that’s not fully integrated itself into this human form? Does my spirit consider itself to be reincarnated into this less than perfect human, or does it consider itself quite separate from this human form, and just inhabiting it? Hence its rejection of human ‘norms’.

And if a spirit can be reincarnated in many different life forms, then surely they can become confused. Is that why I have such a strong affinity with the Elvan community, and yet I sometimes feel a tail? Could it be that Dragonkin are not a single Kin type, but a combination of beings that their spirits have inhabited?

Anyway, I’ve digressed somewhat and my thoughts have asked more questions than they’ve answered, but I hope it’s all loosley connected and that you’ll forgive my ramblings.

I must conclude, so, in one sense yes I think otherkin are based on an idea of reincarnation, but it’s the word ‘broad’ in your question that’s important. For what *is* reincarnation? Is it simply living, dying, living again? Or is it one constant existence that travels the vast expanse of ‘time’ and realms and worlds and universes, both separately and concurrently, with no beginning and no end? Either way, my answer to your question is a hesitant ‘I think so’, but I prefer the concept of coincarnation and the simultaneous incarnation of different life forms by one spirit.
